Abstinence & Sexual Education

Green River District Health Department has decided to wage a war against unplanned pregnancies and the spread of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This is completed by raising community awareness through education and clinical services. Educational classes are held in all of our seven counties in the local middle and high schools along with some local university and colleges to increase the knowledge of students about STIs and ABSTINENCE. Abstinence is abstaining from sexual intercourse (vaginal, anal, or oral).

We strongly encourage parents to actively speak to their children about sexual activity on a continuous basis through out their lives. National statistics still show that students believe their parents are the most influential persons in their lives. Even though this statistic is found most parents choose not to influence their children not to become sexually active until marriage. If you are a parent and need further information, do not be afraid to contact the health department for healthful information on speaking to your child about this subject.

If any other further information is needed please call the Health Department at
270-686-7747
