Clinical Services and Programs

Well Child Screening – available to income eligible children from birth to age 20. Services include medical history, health risk identification, physical examination, immunization, counseling, health education, and referrals. Screenings are conducted by Registered Nurses who have completed mandatory training provided through the Department for Public Health.

Immunizations – childhood immunizations are made available to children aged birth through 18 who meet the guidelines for the Vaccine for Children (VFC) Program. This program targets children who are covered under Medicaid, those who may not have any health insurance, an American Indian or Alaska Native or those children who may be underinsured. For example, health insurance that does not include vaccines, or the insurance covers only selected vaccines (VFC eligible for non-covered vaccines only), or if the insurance caps vaccine coverage at a certain amount. Once that coverage amount is reached, the child is determined as underinsured. Insured patients with a deductible are not eligible for VFC Program vaccines.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Program – Screenings available to income eligible women. Services include pap smears, pelvic exams, breast exam, and screening to determine a need for a mammogram. Women also receive education re risk reduction behavior (i.e.; smoking cessation, diet, etc).

School Health Program – Registered Nurses and clerical support staff are located in five of the seven counties covered by our District. School nurses provide well child exams, immunizations, administration of prescription and non-prescription drugs, individual and classroom presentations, as well as general assessments and care for children presenting with health related complaints.

Communicable Disease Control - Perform surveillance and contact investigation for reportable diseases and conditions. Notifies the State Department of Epidemiology of any outbreak of disease or potential for concern. May head up community education and/or prophylaxis for those conditions that warrant follow-up in order to prevent disease outbreak. Epi Rapid Response Team in place to respond to emergencies.

Sexually Transmitted Disease Program - Confidential testing and treatment available to all persons for gonorrhea, Chlamydia, syphilis, herpes, and other sexually transmitted disease. Confidential and anonymous testing for HIV infection also available. Educational counseling available to help identify and modify behavior that may place an individual at increased risk.

Family Planning Program - Confidential services for men, women, and adolescents including blood pressure evaluation, Pap testing & pelvic exams, breast exam, STD testing & treatment, pregnancy testing & counseling, birth control methods, emergency contraception, sterilization (male & female), immunizations if needed, and other lab tests if needed. Education and counseling are also provided in areas such as healthy lifestyle choices, self breast\testicular exams, STD\HIV risks, preconception health\Folic Acid, option counseling, and infertility. Referrals & linkages with community resources are available. Family Planning staff will help the patient choose the appropriate method of birth control and teach ways to stay healthy. Staff members will answer any questions and patients will also receive birth control method education and counseling, including Natural Family Planning and abstinence education.
