Women, Infants, and Children Supplemental Food Program

Research shows that good nutrition during early childhood decreases the chance of anemia, reduces health care costs, and enhances memory development and a child’s ability to learn. Poor nutrition during the first five years of life will affect that person for the rest of their life.

WIC is a nutrition program that helps pregnant women. postpartum women, breastfeeding women, infants from birth to age 1, and children to age 5. It helps them to eat well, stay healthy, and learn about nutrition. Nutrition education and counseling, nutritious foods, and help accessing other health care services during important times of growth and development are provided.

WIC food vouchers are redeemable at approved groceries and pharmacies throughout the Green River District. To be eligible for WIC services, clients must be at nutritional risk and meet income guidelines of 185% of poverty level, or be Medicaid eligible, or recipients of food stamps.
